All was quiet in the forest near Pirium. When strained grunts broke it.

Anya arm wobbled as she barely hold onto her wounded friend, Tary, with Emils aid, barely holding on his arms as he limped, his dripping blood staining the grass, as their legs trembled with fatigue. Before he collapsed onto their arm, his spear falls to the floor.

"Please. Both of you run. Leave me" He said through gasp of pain, clutching one of his wounds, a bullet hole through his abdomen. It bleeding stopped with a small amount of healing tonic they had left.

Anya kneels and hand him his spear, barely keeping balance, so close they are to fainting.

"No we won't! You're going to make it, Pirium isn't far now. By Kindreds gaze your time isn't up!"

Tary grits his teeth, tears beginning to flow. Before raising his voice, yelling weren't it for his wounds.

"Are you that idiotic! We must keep the obrilon out of the silver hand, and Brundols, grasp. I'll only slow you down!"

Emil tightens his grip on Tary, tears flowing down the dried paths of earlier.

"We already lost many from that ambush. Our allies, our friends, just to break through that blockade. We mustn't let their deaths be in vain."

"Then run! Get to Pirium before they find us! Before Curtis attack to avenge his men."

Anya look to Tary face, his eyes glaring with anger and sorrow. They can't leave him, not after everyones sacrifice for their escape, yet their goal is clear. Get back to Leona with the obrilon, in the satchel on her shoulder. And it just needed one courier.

Then her familiar yelled into her mind.

"BEHIND US!"

She quickly turned and saw them.

An orc with a scar across his forehead, whose surcoat beared the symbol of an an open right hand coloured silver, then dashed forward and raised his hand, causing red chi to pool at his palm from the ruby inset his estoc, and calls the word of the fae. It was Curtis, leader of the silver hand, and he founded them.

She quickly let go of Tary and draws the fae symbols and they cast at once.

"Agni sagitar!" Causing a bolt of fire to fly out Curtis palm.

"Odagio!" Suffusing the air with green chi, tinging it green, and formed it into a dome around them.

A boom echoed followed by a flash as the bolt struck the shield, destroying both spells, before Curtis charged, estoc raised.

Emil leapt forward and braced.

A loud boom, like a gong, breaks the silence as Curtis strucked Emil iron shield. Then Emil shouted.

"RUN!"

Anya needed no warning and quickly pulls Tary and ran as fast as she could.

Emil then swung back only for Curtis to grab his sword and rip it out of his hand and slams it through his chest, breaking through chainmail and bone, and resumed chase.

Anya kept running, trying to carry Tary and maneuver the trees and branches, and silently wept as she hears Emil death cry.

Then she heard another spell chant and turned to see another fire bolt.

Her mind races in panic. It was coming towards her and, with Tary arm slung on her shoulder, unable to counter.

Then she heard him whisper.

"I'm sorry Anya. Run."

Tary then pushed towards a tree, jumping onto the path of the missile, and her eyes widen with horror.

The missile struck Tary before blasting out his chest, leaving a bloodied cavity.

Streams of tears began flowing as Anya covers her mouth, hearing Tary dying gag before he fell, eyes open and devoid of life.

Her breath quickens as she looks to his body, before sliding down the trunk. Then she heard a guttural roar.

Curtis then leapt out, his sword descending on her, with a snarl, baring his shark-like teeths, and burning anger in his blood-red eyes.

Anya rolls away then raised her hand to channel a cantrip, threads of purple chi pooling to her palm from her familiar, as a thought broke through her panic.

"I can't let them die in vain."

"FLEUR!"

A ball of light then blast out of her hand. Curtis yells in pain it blinds him.

Anya followed up by planting her hand on the dirt, grey chi then flowed through the ground and formed into symbols.

"Tetrus pelculis." Causing dirt to trap his shin then transmute to stone. Then locks it with half her chi. And runs, knowing it'll take Curtis at least half a minute to dispel it.

And swiftly she ran, ducking and weaving her way through thick trees and low branches. Her lungs burned, and relief washed over her as she exited the forest.

Pirium was up ahead. If she could just reach it, she could-

She heard the crunch of snapping branches and twigs behind her. Walls of dirt erupted from the flat earth and immediately transmuted to stone, robbing her of her one chance at freedom.

The girl, wide-eyed, spun around.

Curtis then charged out. His eyes bore into her soul, alight with vengeance. He clung to his estoc, till it looked like the handle would snap any second, as he advanced on her.

"How did he break out so fast?" Her mind racing on how he dispelled the restraint so fast. Then she saw the stone grabbing his shins yet the bottom was broken off. He broke the restraints.

Her familiar, a hummingbird with silver wings, flew from her shoulder.

She nervously shifted the satchel on her shoulder. Unsheathing her gladius, it's blade made of obsidian with handle and hilt of wood, and raised her wooden targe, a small shield strapped to her forearm, into combat stance. Her legs trembled. With every second she remained standing, she neared closer to the verge of collapse.

Curtis two familiars, a fey and a sprite, came up at his sides. He went into combat stance as his familiar goes into his sword gem and cloak clasp. Then, with simmering anger in his voice, he said, "Give me the orb and I shall spare you. Defy me, however, and you will pay for the lives you took from my men."

Her thoughts raced back to the caravan, where she and her allies took the job to escort the obrilon, under Solomans orders, to their base.

Tary, Emil, everyone. They could not have sacrificed themselves just for the mission to fail.

"No matter what, don't let the lord get his hands on the Obrilon."

Yes, of course. The loss of their lives was not in vain. Although her chances of getting through this conflict alive were slim, Soloman would be disappointed in her if she failed. She absolutely had to keep the Obrilon out of Curtis's hands, lest Arkalion falls. Even if it meant death.

She subtly moves her feet form the spell signs, stumbling a few times, and hoping Curtis wouldn't see.

"Death shall take me before you have it!" she uttered at him.

"Lapus speri mitus!"

She then finish the spells with a twirl of her arm, her familiar finishing the command, and swung it over the ground. A clump of dirt rose from it and transmuted to stone. At the same time, she cast a wind spell and threw the stone at him.

Curtis leapt to the side. The stone hit his left shoulder, and he cringed. This, however, did not deter him, and he threw his estoc at her and drew the symbols of arcane.

"Magia igneel," he shouted at the same time. Two bolts of purple shot from his palm and flew towards the mage.

"Odagio," she said, drawing the shield symbol.

Curtis' estoc bounced off her shield, the force causing her to stagger, and embedded itself in a nearby tree. His missiles shattered upon impact alongside her shield.

He cast a wind spell and jet towards her. His blade broke loose of the tree and flew at her with the order to his familiar.

She swung her shield as fast as she could, her shield weighing like like a stone to her tired arm, and barely deflected the sword. Followed by a sickening crunch as sank into her left shoulder and she shrieked.

The mage arm went limp, making her drop her sword. An extreme pain, akin to touching red hot iron, surged through her body.

Curtis finally reached her. He wrapped his hands around the estoc and pulled it out of her shoulder.

Anya, gritting her teeth, summoned what little magic she could concentrate. Suffusing the surrounding grass with blue chi and pulled a fistful of water from it, causing the green blades around her wilt. And threw it at his face and quickly uttered a spell to freeze it into ice.

He yelped in pain when it made contact with him. The estoc fell from his grasp. He began heating his hands so as to melt the ice, only for Anya to then slam her foot against the ground. A shockwave of vibration and dirt sent him flying away from her.

Anya then slumped against Curtis conjured walls and clutched her limp arm and concentrated. And begans the incantation and signs for a teleport spell. Trying to control her breathing as she slowly slipped to unconsciousness.

her familiar began pulling chi from its realm and funnels it into the glyphs. Forming a circle beneath her.

Curtis sat up. He blinked and saw the mage and her familiar before him. It suddenly hit him as to what they were doing.

"NO!" he bellowed, jumping up. He recalled the estoc back in his hand and ran forward, activating the runes to sharpen the edge, and slashed at her.

The blade cut into her abdomen, interrupting her last incantations. The last thing she saw before warping was the estoc slicing through her flesh.

She then shot out of the exit and slammed upon the dirt with a loud crash, breaking and twisting the limbs on the right side of her body.

"Please forgive me, sir," she softly cried, feeling her life and blood leave her body. Paralysed with pain and exhaustion.

She heard loud footfalls as she see a figure comes into view.
